Pear Blossom Press Power Pack Hop

Hello everyone.

Today is a special day because we are hopping along with another Pear Blossom Press Power Pack Hop. We are inspiring you to light up someone’s life with a handmade card today using one of Pear Blossom Press’s  awesome power packs. This pack comes with everything you need to create a light up card.

Each Pear Blossom Press Power Pack comes with a battery and switch, a roll of copper tape, and lights. Depending on which pack you purchase the quantity of these items change. It also comes with instructions on how to use these products. Everything you need to make your card light up is included. You just need to add the card.

I’m using some Heffy Doodle supplies to create a light up galaxy card to tell someone happy birthday, maybe a little late. I created space because I knew that I wanted to use the “I spaced on your birthday” sentiment. If you press the raised embossed lettering of the sentiment the stars light up the galaxy.

I started with a piece of Neenah 110 lb. Solar White Cardstock cut to 4 3/4 by 3 1/4. This is different than my normal card panel to make the moon fit a little nicer in the foreground.  I used my Picket Fence Studios Blender Brushes to ink blend a galaxy background. I love creating galaxy backgrounds. Space has intensely vibrant colors and just about any combination would make a great galaxy.

Today my galaxy was inspired by a nebula that I saw on one of NASA’s Instagram feeds. Looking back on it, I wish I had used more blue. The colors I used to create this background were all Distress Oxide. I used Black Soot, Hickory Smoke, Stormy Sky (which got lost, in my opinion), Dusty Concord, and Shaded Lilac.

I also placed the background into my Splat Box and used Gansai Tambi Starry Nights Watercolor in #904.  I added a little bit of water to it and scooped a little up with my Zen Royal & Langnickle Round #2 brush and placed it onto and acrylic block. I removed the excess and then lightly tapped the end of my brush onto the side of the acrylic block. This leaves droplets of paint in the sky that look like stars.

I concentrated the majority of the ink blending on the top portion of the background panel, leaving the bottom white. I knew that I wanted to create a moon to fill this area.

To do that, I took a piece of Stampin’ Up!’s Basic Gray cardstock and the Heffy Doodle You’re Weird Die Set. I used the die that coordinates with the moon image in it’s coordinating stamp set. I used it to align the top of a piece of the gray cardstock as to cut the top of it in the shape of the moon but leave the bottom long to have room for a sentiment.  This piece was cut to match the size of the background on the sides but I trimmed the bottom by eye.

To help define the moon’s shape, I stamped it’s coordinating stamp using a stamp positioner. I stamped it with Nuvo Clear Mark Embossing Ink and I used Wow! Black Puff Embossing Powder to do the embossing. I heated it with my Wagner heat tool and left it to cool before stamping the sentiment below it.  This embossing powder is so neat. When you heat it up it expands and creates a texture where its used.

To stamp the sentiment, I put it back into my stamp posistioner and lined up the sentiment knowing that I wanted to leave room for the word Die above it. I stamped the first and last line of this three lined sentiment with Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink and heat embossed it using Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder. Then I stamped the center of the sentiment with the clear embossing ink and used the same Black Puff Embossing Powder by Wow! But this time I added a little extra powder to really intensify the puff effect but still making sure you can still read the word “spaced”.  I think it looks neat.

Before I could attach the moon panel onto the background I wanted to enhance the background a little more by using the Heffy Doodle Stargazer Backdrop Die to cut stars into the ink blended panel. After running that through my Spellbinders Platinum Die Cutting Machine. I was ready to start putting my card together.

To bring in the lights, I used the new Pear Blossom Press Power Pack kit.  This kit takes the guess work out of lighting up your cards.  They have an easy to use design, without the need to “create” or “build” a switch out of a battery and cardstock.  Pear Blossom Press really makes it easy to give your craft something extra with a simple design and simple instructions.

I began by determining my light and switch locations, and then ran the copper tape in a manner that kept it hidden from my Die-cut Background, but still managed to hit all of the necessary lugs on the lights and power pack.   And of course, I overcomplicated the heck out of this thing.  I wanted the lighting to really shine down onto that beautiful reflective underlayment, so I ran my tape and lights on the underside of my background thinking that it would make things super bright... as it turns out, I shouldn’t have, because you can see the copper tape through the card stock.  It is either a result of the super bright foil (which I guess, I was trying for?), or me just not realizing that the cardstock would be so translucent... or maybe both.  Either way, I don’t think I would suggest running things in this manner... just follow the directions on this one folks!!

I added Craft Perfect Foam squares to the back of the front panel in order to pop it up onto the Tonic Studios Craft Perfect Holographic Mirror Cardstock. This is foiled Cardstock is one of my favorite new products to play with. I loved the look of this so much that I cut the “sorry” from the Heffy Doodle Heffy Cuts word Die collection to make a Holographic sorry above the sentiment.  To make the word die a little more dimensional I added layers of both white and dark gray cardstock.  This is not well represented in the photos but if you look at the word die from the side, you can see white and gray stripes layered beneath it using Nuvo Deluxe liquid adhesive. I also used that same liquid adhesive to mount it to my card panel.

All of these components were placed onto a Simon Says Stamp Fog card base cut to size A2 and scored in a top folding portrait orientation.

I hope that you enjoyed my light up card inspiration. These power packs are sold both individually and in packs of three. I have a small box that I keep all of my light up card components inside of and it helps me stay organized when I go to make a light up card. I also keep a Chibitronics notebook inside of it with tips and notes to help me along the way. Maybe someday I will stop having to refer to my notes. I know that the new switches from Pear Blossom Press make this task so much easier for me.

This is the last stop on the hop but here is the complete list if you missed anyone.

Thank you for visiting my blog today. I hope that I have inspired you to create something today.

Neat & Tangled's August Release: Day Four

Hi everyone! Today is day four of the Neat & Tangled’s August Release Week. Today I have a fun card using the NEW Delicate Dots background. As soon as I saw this background I instantly thought of stamping the background and then adding the NEW Grateful Heart Stamp Set featured in front. I also saw the very real potential to use it as snow. I love this background and with it, I made stars today.

To check out the entire NEW Release (CLICK HERE!) to visit the Neat & Tangled Online store. Also, check out todays blog post with tons of inspiration using this month’s release.

Comment on the design team members blogs for your chance to win a gift certificate to the Neat & Tangled Online Store. The more you comment the more you increase your chances of winning. Good Luck : )

As for the actual description of my card, I started with a piece of Neenah 110 lb. Solar White cardstock, and loaded it and my NEW Delicate Dots Background from Neat & Tangled into my Original MISTI. I prepped my piece of white cardstock with and EK Success Powder tool. I also inked up my stamp with Nuvo Clear Mark Embossing Ink and stamped it down. I made sure to apply tons of pressure, it can sometimes be tricky to get all of your dots stamped perfectly the first time. You may need to re-ink and re-apply, but usually the second time is the charm. Especially with red rubber background stamps. I love them though, because you can often get it in one try.

I used Wow! White Puff embossing powder to emboss my delicate dots. This embossing powder, when heated, rises and puffs up. It’s great for snow on winter themed cards. Today, these will be stars in outer space. I cut this piece down to 4 3/4 by 3 1/2.  And we are going to do some ink blending.

To do this, I made myself a stencil. I like to make circle aperture cards, so I took some stencil material and cut a larger than normal hole in the top center area of a rectangle cut to 4 3/4 by 3 1/2. I typically make this size card and I thought this would be handy to have around. I keep it on my rolling cart that allows me all around my craftroom.

I laid this homemade stencil onto my piece of Neenah and used my Picket Fence Blender Brushes to ink blend a warm  galaxy background.  I used Distress Oxide inks in Black Soot, Chipped Sapphire, Wilted Violet, Spice Marmalade, and Ripe Persimmon.  I used one of the smaller brushes in the set, the smaller round brush to help control the blend in the background.

I started with Black Soot at the top of the circle and Spiced Marmalade at the bottom. Then under the the black I added a little Chipped Sapphire and blended it into the black. Down at the bottom, I blended the Marmalade into some Ripe Persimmon and then Wilted Violet was blended into the darkness.  All of this was done while the white puffs of the embossing powder held strong and with a little wipe of a damp microfiber cloth, they were white again.

I was not yet done with this background. I placed it into my spat box and hit it with Imagine Sparkle and Frost Shimmer Spray as well as Hero Arts White Iridescent Shimmer Spray. This background really started to shine like stars.

Once my background was complete, I needed to have a focal image, so I used the darling image of the girl on the moon from the To The Stars Stamp Set also by Neat & Tangled. I stamped her on Neenah 110 Solar White Cardstock and colored her and a few clouds with my Copic Markers and I used their coordinating dies to cut them out.

I used a Simon Says Stamp Fog card base cut to size A2 in a top folding orientation. I loaded my card base into my MISTI as well and stamped the NEW Delicate Dots Background Stamp by Neat & Tangled onto the card base using Simon Says Stamp Fog Ink. This creates a nice subtle continuation of the stars from the background into the card base in a tone on tone effect.

I took another piece of Neenah 110 lb cardstock and cut it down to 4 3/4 by 3 1/2. I also used a circle die from my stash to cut a circle aperture into it. This way you look through the circle into the background.  Below the circle I stamped the sentiment “i love you past the stars” also from the To The Stars Stamp Set with Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. I popped this piece up onto the background using  Scotch 3M Foam Tape. I adhered it to the card base using tear tape adhesive.

To finish off the card I used the same foam tape to pop up my images on to the card to create this lovely space scene. I added a little more fun to my card by adding Ranger Stickles in Frosted Lace to the wings of my fairy as well as a half of a small white pom pom that I cut and glued onto his tail using Nuvo Deluxe Liquid Adhesive. I think these small touches really can finish off a card quite nicely.

Remember to visit the Neat & Tangled online store to see the entire August Release and the blog will have a ton more inspiration for our talented design team. (CLICK HERE!) to check that out.

Neat & Tangled August Release: Day Three

Hello everyone. It is day three of Neat & Tangled’s August Release week. I hope you have been inspired to create some fun projects using the awesome products being released this month. Today I am using the NEW Grateful Heart Stamp Set to create a simple "thank you" card that is also quite stunning.

To check out the entire Neat & Tangled August Release (CLICK HERE!) to visit the online shop.

Don’t forget there is a giveaway today and on all four days of the Neat & Tangled August Release week, so make sure you are commenting on all of the design team member blogs so that it will increase your chances of winning.

As for my card, I started with a piece of Bristol  Smooth White Cardstock cut to 4 3/4 by 3 1/2. I grabbed my Ranger  ink Blending Tools and some Distress Oxide ink. I used Cracked Pistachio  and Evergreen Bough to blend the background of this card.

After I blended the background with those two ink colors, I loaded it into my Original MISTI and arranged not only the flowers from  the NEW Grateful Heart stamp set by Neat & Tangled but also the “thank you “ sentiment.

I treated my cardstock with an EK Success Powder Tool and inked up my stamps with Nuvo Clear Mark Embossing Powder.  Before doing this, make sure your background is completely dry, otherwise you will have embossing powder stick everywhere that you don’t want it to. After closing the door on my MISTI I made sure to give it even pressure to ensure a good stamped image.

After making sure the images were all stamped well enough, I used Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder to heat emboss the images onto the cardstock. I used my Wagner Heat Tool to melt the embossing powder.

I popped up this panel with gray craft foam and tear tape adhesive. I attached it to a Simon Says Stamp Fog card base cut and scored to an A2 size top folding card.

I hope you enjoyed my project today. To find out more inspiration using this months release (CLICK HERE!) to visit the Neat & Tangled Blog and see what the rest of the design team has been up to using this release.

Also don’t forget to comment in order to be entered to win a giveaway. Good Luck!

Neat & Tangled August Release Week: Day Two

Hello everyone. It is day two of Neat & Tangled’s August Release Week and today I have a fun card for you featuring the NEW Grateful Heart Stamp Set and Coordinating Dies.

To check out the entire NEW release or to shop the Neat & Tangled online store (CLICK HERE!) and happy shopping.

Today’s card is a black and white monochromatic card that is perfect for those more somber occasions or it also works for just creating a more sophisticated appearance.

I started with a piece of Simon Says Stamp Black Cardstock cut to 4 3/4 by 3 1/2. I loaded the largest flower from the set into my Original MISTI and arranged them to stamp toward the bottom left hand corner of my card panel. I prepped my cardstock with my EK Success Powder Tool and stamped the images with Nuvo Clear Mark Embossing Ink.  I then used Ranger White Embossing Powder to heat emboss the images. I used my Wagner Heat Tool to melt the embossing powder and gave it a few minutes to cool down.

This panel was then popped up onto a Simon Says Stamp Fog card base cut and scored in an A2 sized portrait orientation.  I used black craft foam and tear tape adhesive to adhere them together.

I then stamped the smaller two images from the same Grateful Heart Stamp Set onto Neenah 110 lb. Solar White Cardstock with Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. I used the coordinating dies to cut out these two smaller flowers.

The two smaller flowers where then popped up onto the front panel using Craft Perfect Foam Squares. I also added a few of the NEW Sophisticated Enamel Dots also in the Neat & Tangled August Release.  I love how the large glossy enamel dots stick out to just a little shine.

Neat & Tangled August Release Week: Day One

Hello everyone. Today is day one of the Neat & Tangled’s NEW August Release. It’s been a few months since there has been a release, so I was very excited to put together the next week’s worth of projects and inspiration.

Something that has changed in this release week process… You no longer have to wait to make your selections at the end of the week. The entire Neat & Tangled August Release is now available in the online store. You can save 20% and purchase the bundle deal. (CLICK HERE!) for savings.

There is also a giveaway each day of release week, so make sure you are commenting all of the design team’s blogs to increase your chance of winning the prize each day. Giveaway winners will be announced Friday on the Neat & Tangled Blog.

Today I’m using the NEW Grateful Heart Stamp set to create a card that was inspired by a Starbucks cup. I saw this cup when I was out and about one day and snapped a photo of it because I thought it would make a great background on a card. I was just waiting for the right stamp set you use it with.

I took a piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth White Cardstock and the Grateful Heart Stamp Set and loaded it into my Original MISTI. I covered the entire front panel that measures 4 3/4 x 3 1/2. I prepped my cardstock with an EK Success powder tool and inked up my stamps with Nuvo Clear Mark Embossing Ink.  I closed the MISTI door and checked to make sure all of my image was successfully transferred to the paper with the ink.  I used my Wagner Heat Tool to melt the Ranger White Embossing Powder in place.  I wiped the entire card front with my blue micro fiber towel to wipe off any excess ink that may be lingering on my white heat embossing.

Once the panel was cooled completely, I took The Picket Fence Studios Blender Brushes and some Avery Elle Sea Glass pigment ink and ink blended it on about half of the card. Then I used Distress Oxide ink in Wild Honey to blend onto the other half. Making sure to blend the two together well in the center. I also ink blended a second piece of Bristol Smooth White cardstock that will end up being the sentiment.

I popped up this panel using gray craft foam and tear tape adhesive. I placed it onto a Simon Says Stamp Fog card base cut to size A2 and scored in a top folding portrait orientation.

As for the sentiment, I stamped the “thank you” from the same Grateful Heart Stamp Set onto the extra piece that I had ink blended earlier. I used the same method of heat embossing for the sentiment that I used on the images. I cut it down into a strip using my Fiskars Wire Guide Paper Trimmer. It was then placed onto the card front using Craft Perfect Foam Squares.

This card was not hard to create but looks very pretty and elegant, as do many of the cards I have lined up this week. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more release week inspiration. Happy shopping. (CLICK HERE!) to visit the Neat & Tangled website.

Now- on to the project... Today I am using the NEW Celebrate Friendship and Botanical Burst stamp sets to create a unique card, mixing the fun cutesy image with the more elegant floral background. To learn how I created this card, continue reading.

I started my project with a piece of heavyweight white cardstock cut to 3 1/2 by 4 3/4 inches, and I masked a portion of the cardstock to keep that section bare white and free from stamping. While my card panel was still masked, I loaded it into my stamp positioner and aligned the medium sized cluster of florals from the NEW Botanical Burst stamp set. I tried to position it in the center of the panel to stamp this imaged with sage green ink. Leaving the masking in place, I also used my Nuvo Blender Brush to add some more sage green ink. Coloring the cluster of flowers with a haze of green.

Once the masking paper was removed and the ink had a few moments to dry, I then took the "blessed" word die from Tonic Studios from the Will's Hand collection and cut it directly from my background panel, making sure to keep all of the pieces both positive and negative.

I also cut that same word die from some white craft foam. This will help to pop up my sentiment. You could also cut it from cardstock multiple times and layer them together to build some dimension.

I applied a piece of white copy paper to the back of my card panel... The same panel that I have just cut holes in. This piece of copy paper is attached to the back of the area where I cut out the word die using Nuvo Tape Runner adhesive and a good amount of it. Using plenty allows for the area to remain sticky and helps us arrange our camouflage puzzle.

I first attach the white craft foam in its place. I used a small amount of Nuvo Deluxe Liquid adhesive where there were areas that did not appear to have tape runner adhesive in place. I used it's flexibility to wrap the text to match where it was cut from. I then added all of the negative pieces to the areas where they came from flat to the card panel using the same liquid adhesive. Last but not least, I used liquid glue to adhere the cardstock portion to fill in the camouflage effect and make it appear as though it's popping out of the background.

I then used tear tape adhesive and gray craft foam to pop up the entire card panel on to its card base. I used a gray card base cut to size A2 in a side folding or landscape orientation.

To add some cuteness to this project, I stamped the little pig, the bee and a little flower from the Celebrate Friendship stamp set in a light gray hybrid ink onto bright white watercolor paper. I used my watercolor pencils to color my images along with a blender pen to draw out the color. I also added a little bow tie to the pig. I felt like he needed to dress up a little for the occasion.

Once these images where completely dry I used some non serrated scissors to cut them out. Be careful, that squiggly tail can be a real pain. Once they were all cut out, I popped them up using Craft Perfect foam squares.

For the sentiment, I stamped the "you make the world a nicer Place" sentiment from the NEW Sentiments stamp set also from Tonic Studios using Nuvo Clear Mark Embossing Ink onto a dark green cardstock that I felt coordinated, as well as dressed it up a little bit. I used white embossing powder to heat emboss the words. It was cut down using a wire guide paper trimmer into a strip and attached it to the card using those same Craft Perfect Adhesive Foam Squares.

I hope that you enjoyed my blog post today, and hope that I've inspired you to create something cute with these fun products that Tonic Studios has created for us with this release. I have listed the rest of the blog hop below, continue on and don't forget to comment to win a $25 gift card to Tonic Stuidos.

Colorado Craft Company August Release

Hello everyone. Today I have a video using Colorado Craft Company’s NEW August Release of their Big and Bold collection. These stamp sets feature larger images in a hand drawn style with fun sentiments to boot. These sets fit well with their other collection called Lovely Legs.

To check out the NEW Release from The Colorado Craft Company (CLICK HERE) to see their brand line up over at Simon Says Stamp.

I am doing a giveaway for this release. Six winners will be chosen from the comments section of the YouTube video that coordinates with this blog post. Leave me a comment letting me know which of the three cards featured is your favorite out of the group. I will pick randomly six winners in three days time so check back in the description box of that video for the winners to be announced. I will post them on Tuesday August 6th . The six people chosen will each receive one of the six stamp sets from Colorado Craft Company that is being released this August. I hope I have encouraged you to enter and Good luck in the giveaway.

As for the cards, most of them will be shown in the video over on YouTube. All except one. Somehow the down facing camera footage was corrupted and I couldn’t show you how that was made. Good thing it’s super simple and I can just tell you all about it here.

The Big and Bold collection from Colorado Craft Company are just that… Big. I wanted to feature the entire dress on the front of a card but in order to do that, I had to make a card slightly larger than cards I usually make.

This card measures half the size of a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. I made the Simon Says Stamp Fog card base by simply folding a sheet of it in half and scoring it with my Teflon bone Folder.

Then I cut a sheet of Simon Says Stamp Black cardstock down to  . This piece is going to be my front panel.

I quickly aligned the front panel into my original MISTI and stamped the sentiment  “you’re fabulous darling” toward the bottom center of the panel. I stamped it with Nuvo Clear Mark embossing ink and used Ranger White embossing powder to heat emboss it.  I added this panel to the Fog card base using black craft foam and tear tape adhesive.

As for the dress, I stamped it the same exact way as the sentiment was stamped above, only this time I fussy cut it out with my scissors. It doesn’t matter that the cutting edge isn’t perfect. It will end up disappearing into the background. Once I was finished cutting it out I threw it into my splat box and sprayed it with my three favorite shimmer sprays. Imagine crafts Frost and Sparkle shimmer spray as well as Hero Arts White Iridescent Shimmer spray. After all three were dry, I added some Tonic Studios Foam Squares to the back and mounted it to the card panel centered above the sentiment.

That was it, but my camera didn’t record all of it. So, sadly, it’s not in the video. But there are two more cards being made in the video that I didn’t mess up… So, here is a link to the video._

Also, I’ve listed all of the materials I’ve used to create these projects here on my blog in the following Airtable spreadsheet. Affiliate links are used when available.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog today. I hope I’ve inspired you to create something with these fun NEW products from the Colorado Craft Company.  (CLICK HERE) to check out their awesome stamps or follow the links below.
